Billinudgel Nature Reserve Expands
The North Byron Shire Parklands team and the Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC) have been planning the voluntary dedication of important land which will result in the expansion of the Billinudgel Nature Reserve by over 35 hectares.
The arrangement involves a land swap of some seven hectares, with North Byron Shire Parklands dedicating a further 28 hectares to the Reserve.
“The purpose of the dedication is to protect habitat and wildlife corridor values together with Aboriginal heritage values” outlined Mat Morris, General Manager for North Byron Shire Parklands.
As the dedication of land requires boundary adjustments in preparation for the transfer of land to DECC, the Parklands team have submitted a request to tidy up their allotments as a part of the application. (see document) 3.65mb
It is the primary intention of the landowners to pursue approval as a cultural events site. If the land is approved for this use, Parklands will exchange the 35 hectares of land for seven hectares of land and will not require the boundary adjustment.
However in the circumstances where approval as a cultural events site does not eventuate, the landowners will be able to use the proposed boundary adjustment which turns the 255 hectare site into five farms.
